What could your boat earn by sharing it?

A quick honest look at the annual cost of owning a boat alone versus splitting it with one or more partners. No email required.

If you own it alone

$11,664/ year

That's the ballpark in slip, insurance, and maintenance — before financing.

$467 per day actually on the water.

If you share it

$2,916/ year, each

Split 4 ways with 3 partners.

Save $8,748 a year.

$117 per day actually on the water.

These are nationwide ballpark figures for slip, insurance, and maintenance. Your actual numbers will vary by marina, boat age, insurance carrier, and how hands-on you are. The estimator is a conversation starter, not a quote.

How this works

Where these numbers come from.

  • Slip + insurance + maintenance are bundled into a per-foot annual estimate that varies by boat type and region. Sailboats run leaner than yachts; the West Coast and Northeast run higher than the Great Lakes or Gulf Coast.
  • Financing is NOT included. If you have a boat loan, add that on top. Partnership shares are typically sold for cash so financing is the buyer's problem, not the boat's.
  • Use days matter for cost-per-day. A $15K/year boat used 10 days a year is $1,500/day. A $15K/year boat used 40 days a year is $375/day. Sharing changes both the annual and the per-day math.
  • This is a conversation starter, not a quote. Get a real number by listing your boat (free) and seeing what partners offer.
